Belfast, November 2017

The fifth Kudos International Network annual conference was held at the Hilton Hotel, Belfast in Northern Ireland on Tuesday 21 November and Wednesday 22 November 2017. This year’s theme was entitled “Getting fit for the future”.

The conference commenced on Tuesday with a session from Kudos’ directors Alun Morgan and Michael Scott on the growth of the network during the year, the new members in the group and the progress of the new accounting association PCP Global which commenced trading in May 2017. The second session of the day was a soft skills workshop and was provided by the highly entertaining Nuala McKeever, a local actress and comedienne. The workshop was entitled “how to use what you have already got, to get what you really want in a business setting”.

In the afternoon we went on an entertaining bus tour around the sites of Belfast visiting Titanic, Harland and Wolf shipyards, parliament buildings at Stormont, Queens University Belfast, the National Stadium at Windsor Park, the iconic peace line in West Belfast and the Falls and Shankill Roads, before finishing off with an interesting tour of Crumlin Road Gaol.

On Tuesday evening we had an excellent private dinner in the hotel with Nuala McKeever giving an entertaining after dinner speech. The evening concluded with an in-house casino with first prize being a weekend break at the hotel. The winner was Denis Murphy from member firm Moriarty & Murphy whose highly tactical approach paid off.

Wednesday morning started bright and early with a very slick session from Marie Louise Muir entitled “Pitch perfect”. Marie Louise is the Arts Presenter for BBC Northern Ireland and has over 25 years experience as a presenter and producer. The session covered presentation skills, breathing techniques, posture, controlling nerves and eye contact.

The final two sessions of the conference were given by Gordon Gilchrist from 2020. Gordon spoke at our London conference in 2015 and he was both entertaining and enlightening in his session “Using the Kudos brand to develop business”.

The conference was well received by member firms and Belfast proved to be our most popular venue to date.
